As part of its 60th anniversary celebrations and commitment to being at the forefront of innovation and global change, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) launched on 7 December 2023 the first of its kind United Nations native Metaverse, in partnership with Berexia Digital. All are invited to visit and explore the Metaverse through 7 February 2024.

The Metaverse is UNITAR´s latest initiative in its unwavering mission to spread awareness and knowledge of global challenges, the work and objectives of the United Nations, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in Agenda 2030. Moreover, this new digital platform, free and accessible to all, overcoming economic and geographic limitations, demonstrates UNITAR´s dedication to increasing its educational reach. The Metaverse incorporates new learning formats and strategies, coinciding with the accelerated pace of today´s technological advancements. As the dedicated training arm of the United Nations, UNITAR strives to remain at the forefront of innovation and to set an example of how virtual environments can be harnessed for educational and informational purposes. With its interactive and innovative format, UNITAR hopes through the Metaverse to broaden its reach and engage new audiences, making the United Nations system and mission more accessible and comprehensible.

The UNITAR Metaverse pays tribute to UNITAR´s 60-year legacy. It presents an immersive educational journey, allowing visitors to explore and expand their curiosities. Participants begin their visit at the quintessential Alley of the Flags, as they approach Geneva´s United Nations Palais des Nations. Once inside, visitors can explore and interact with a multitude of different rooms and universes, immersing themselves in each experience and learning along the way. Participants will end their virtual journey endowed with greater knowledge of the work and missions of the United Nations, specifically with regard to the SDGs.

The wider hope is that, upon engaging with the Metaverse, participants will then carry their new knowledge through into their lives, becoming `UNITAR Virtual Ambassadors for Positive Change´. As such, the Metaverse serves as another avenue for UNITAR to equip global visitors with the knowledge they need to lead and contribute to a future driven by purpose and sustainability. In particular, UNITAR hopes that the Metaverse may gauge the attention of new and younger audiences, sparking their interests and passions in contributing to the realization of a world in which all people may enjoy peace and prosperity.

We invite you to join us on this journey, at: UNITAR Metaverse (metaverseunitar.org).
