You are a negotiator. You get waken up in the middle of the night. Dozens of civilians are being held hostage by insurgents at the other side of the world, no further information as of now. You are tasked to negotiate their release.

From sense-making to negotiation skills and international law, international crisis management is a multi-layered and extremely complicated, fast-paced, and high stakes process. How do you gather the information you need to leverage your position? How do you negotiate with a non-recognized regime that neither signed nor ratified any instrument of international law?

The UNITAR – UOC Open Webinar on Diplomacy and Conflict Management will dive in the crucial and complex interrelation between diplomacy and conflict management. Senior experts of the field will share their experiences and dissect the case of the 1999 IC-814 hijack, when Taliban fighters hijacked an Indian plane, and the subsequent international crisis management that ensued.
