About this course
In this nanocourse on SDG 13 – Climate Action – you will get a holistic and global understanding of climate change and its origin story, its effect on different economies and individuals, as well as ways to take action against climate change on an individual, community and institutional level. This course will also show you how to design a simple project for SDG impact and create your own project to help your community be more resilient.
Larissa Demel is the current director of Youth Engagement for the Special Olympics Latin America, where she oversees youth innovation projects for inclusion and accessibility for people with disability. Larissa was also a speaker at HABITAT III, the bi-decennial United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, where she launched Urban Action, a youth initiative in collaboration with UN Habitat and AIESEC that set out to implement over 150 youth projects related to New Urban Agenda and SDGs within the first year of New Urban Agenda adoption. She has published papers on social innovation through youth action on the SDGs which is being used by over 50,000 young people in 126 countries and created a SDG social project framework for young people and has created the SDG 11 content on to the Young Person’s Guide to Saving the World.
Our courses are appropriate for individuals with undergraduate-level education who are interested in a quick, high-level overview of each SDG and include opportunities for learning about the SDG, reflecting on their personal beliefs and values around the SDG in question, and ways to take immediate action on working towards solving them.
By the end of this nanocourse you should be able to:
- Understand SDG 13 – Climate Action in the wider global context
- Self-reflect on your values and attitudes about and ethical issues around SDG 13
- Develop a simple plan of action to begin to create change in your local community
