Building capacity on risk management, conformity assessment and market surveillance for sustainable development

The course has a blended approach (online and in person). It consists of three online training modules, and, resources to be used for traditional in-person training. The online training precedes the in person training, so as to maximize efficiency.

The three modules are respectively about: 

- Risk Management in Business & Regulation: Towards a Better Management of Risk. This course introduces participants to the various risk management tools necessary to induce and help implement change in the structure of regulatory systems and frameworks. It showcases tools and models that have been developed in response to the problems faced by various entities in implementing risk management tools within regulatory systems.

- Conformity Assessment. This course introduces participants to the set of procedures, which demonstrate how specified requirements relating to a product, process, system, person or body are fulfilled. It outlines the role of conformity assessment in quality infrastructure and its importance in accelerating trade capacity and economic development. The course further examines how differences between conformity assessment procedures create major barriers to trade and the operational requirements for an efficient conformation assessment infrastructure.

- Market Surveillance. This course introduces participants to the activities carried out and measures taken by designated authorities to ensure that products comply with mandatory requirements. It showcases Market Surveillance tools and objectives, in order that participants may better understand how MS authorities contribute to the smooth functioning of the Single Market. The course further examines the need for cooperation and information-sharing and identifies enforcement actions taken by market surveillance authorities to prevent commercial operators from attaining a competitive advantage through non-compliance.

The course consists of 30 hours of online training (over the course of 3 weeks) followed by one week of in-presence training.
